Galeri Dato' Onn

Dato 'Sir Onn bin Dato' Jaafar was born on 12 February 1895 in Bukit Gambir, Jalan Gertak Merah, Johor Bahru. He is the founder and president of the United Malays National Organization also known as UMNO. During his life, he served as a District Officer in Batu Pahat during the British colonial administration. He died on 19 January 1962 at the age of 67.
In order to appreciate his services during serving in Batu Pahat, a gallery has been set up near the Batu Pahat Golf Club.
This 4487.50 square foot building was his official residence at the time. This building was built in 1938 with the construction cost at that time was RM15,500.00.
This memorial building was inspired by Y.A.B. Dato ’Hj. Abdul Ghani bin Othman, Menteri Besar of Johor in conjunction with the visit of Y.A.B. Dato ’Seri Abdullah bin Hj. Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia to Batu Pahat when he officiated the Founding Ceremony of A Nation in March 2006. Dato ’Onn Gallery was inaugurated on 11 September 2012 by YB Asiah Md Arif Chairman of the Rural and Regional Development, Culture, Arts and Heritage Committee.
